Street Team Volunteer
This role involves engaging with the public at events and through door-to-door outreach to promote TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), educate on responsible pet ownership, and rally support for our mission. Gain valuable skills in community outreach, public speaking, and volunteer recruitment while helping to create a better environment for pets and their owners.
Work Location: Killeen, and other Texas cities where Snip & Tip operates.
Purpose of the Position: The Street Team Volunteer supports Snip & Tip by engaging with the community through events and door-to-door outreach to promote TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), educate the public about responsible pet ownership, and gather support for the organization's mission.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Event Participation: Represent Snip & Tip at community events, fairs, and local gatherings, setting up and managing informational booths, distributing literature, and engaging with attendees.
Door-to-Door Outreach: Conduct door-to-door outreach in target communities to educate residents about TNR, the importance of spaying/neutering pets, and Snip & Tip’s services.
Community Education: Provide information and resources to community members about responsible pet ownership, TNR, and how they can get involved with Snip & Tip.
Survey and Data Collection: Gather information and feedback from community members to help identify areas in need of TNR services and track community support and involvement.
Volunteer Recruitment: Encourage community members to volunteer with Snip & Tip and provide information about various volunteer opportunities.
Resource Distribution: Distribute educational materials, flyers, and promotional items to raise awareness about Snip & Tip’s mission and programs.
Networking: Build and maintain positive relationships with community leaders, local businesses, and other organizations to foster support for Snip & Tip.
Reporting: Provide regular updates to the program coordinator about outreach activities, community feedback, and any issues or concerns encountered during outreach efforts.
Level of Difficulty:
Physical (3/5): Involves standing for long periods, walking, and carrying outreach materials.
Mental (3/5): Requires strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to engage with diverse populations, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Emotional (3/5): Can be emotionally challenging due to encountering varying opinions and situations regarding community cats and pet ownership.
Expected Environmental Conditions: Majority of the work occurs outdoors at community events and during door-to-door outreach. Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for varying conditions.
How Often Volunteers Work On-site: All volunteer work is on-site in the community, at events, or door-to-door.
Orientation/Training:
General orientation and training on Snip & Tip’s mission, TNR program, and outreach strategies.
Hands-on training specific to the role, including effective communication techniques and community engagement.
Introduction to key team members and community partners.
Learning Opportunities:
Develop or strengthen skills in community outreach, public speaking, and education.
Gain experience in volunteer recruitment and event management.
Enhance communication and interpersonal skills.
Position Start Date: Ongoing.
Initial Minimum Commitment: Four to ten hours per week for three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and interest.
Scheduling Guidelines: Flexible, with most work required during weekends and evenings based on event schedules and community availability. Volunteers should be available for scheduled events and door-to-door outreach times.
Tools/Equipment Provided (including Personal Protective Equipment):
Training materials, resources, and support for outreach activities.
Supplies for events and door-to-door outreach, including flyers, promotional items, and educational materials.
Optional Tools/Equipment: Any specialty tools or personal equipment you prefer to work with.
Supervisor(s): Program Coordinator, Snip & Tip.
Number of Concurrent Volunteer Openings: 5-10 individuals per location.
Qualifications/Requirements for Volunteer Applicants:
Meet the requirements outlined in the Essential Capabilities document with or without reasonable accommodation.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable engaging with diverse populations and handling varying opinions.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Experience in community outreach or public speaking is preferred but not required.
Access to a computer and internet for record-keeping and communication.
