Volunteer Animal Care Coordinator

Purpose of the Position: The Volunteer Animal Care Coordinator supports Snip & Tip by overseeing and coordinating animal care activities at Cody's house, future Snip & Tip facilities, and during high-volume clinic operations. This role ensures that all animals receive the highest standard of care and that animal care volunteers are well-trained and supported.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate the efforts of Animal Care Volunteers, providing guidance, support, and supervision during daily care activities.
Training and Mentoring: Train new animal care volunteers on best practices for animal handling, health monitoring, and facility maintenance. Provide ongoing mentoring and support.
Health Monitoring: Oversee the health and well-being of animals, ensuring that any signs of illness or distress are promptly addressed. Coordinate with veterinary partners for medical care when necessary.
Daily Care Oversight: Ensure that all daily care tasks, including feeding, watering, cleaning enclosures, and socializing animals, are performed to a high standard.
Facility Maintenance: Oversee the cleanliness and organization of animal care areas at Cody's house and future facilities, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
Supply Management: Manage inventory and distribution of animal care supplies, including food, litter, medications, and cleaning materials. Ensure that supplies are adequately stocked and available.
Transportation Coordination: Assist with the logistics of transporting animals to and from high-volume clinics for spay/neuter surgeries and other medical treatments.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal care activities, health status, and medical treatments. Ensure that all data is recorded in a timely and organized manner.
Community Engagement: Engage with community members, foster families, and visitors, providing information about Snip & Tip’s mission and animal care programs.
Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Program Coordinator about animal care activities, volunteer performance, and any issues or concerns.
Problem Solving: Address any issues or concerns that arise during animal care activities, providing solutions and support to ensure the well-being of the animals and volunteers.
Level of Difficulty:
Physical (3/5): Involves lifting, bending, and handling animals of various sizes and conditions.
Mental (4/5): Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and coordinate a team.
Emotional (4/5): Can be emotionally challenging due to dealing with sick or injured animals and the potential for attachment to the animals in care.
Expected Environmental Conditions: Majority of the work occurs indoors at Cody's house or future Snip & Tip facilities, with some work required outdoors. Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for varying conditions.
How Often Volunteers Work On-site: Most work is on-site at Cody's house, future facilities, or high-volume clinics.
Orientation/Training:
General orientation and training on Snip & Tip’s animal care policies and procedures.
Hands-on training specific to the role, including animal handling, health monitoring, and record-keeping.
Introduction to key team members and veterinary partners.
Learning Opportunities:
Develop or strengthen leadership and team management skills.
Gain experience in animal care and health monitoring.
Enhance organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Position Start Date: Ongoing.
Scheduling Guidelines: Flexible, with some work required during regular business hours and occasional evenings or weekends based on the needs of the animals and the facility.
Tools/Equipment Provided (including Personal Protective Equipment):
Training materials, resources, and support for animal care activities.
Supplies for animal care, including food, litter, medical kits, and cleaning materials.
Optional Tools/Equipment: Any specialty tools or personal equipment you prefer to work with.
Supervisor(s): Program Coordinator, Snip & Tip.
Number of Concurrent Volunteer Openings: 2-3 individuals per location.
Restrictions:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must wear a Snip & Tip t-shirt (provided at no cost) when representing the program.
Must have reliable transportation for travel to Cody's house, future facilities, and veterinary clinics.
Must complete all assigned training before being assigned a postition.
