Volunteer Community TNR Coordinator

This vital role involves managing and coordinating TNR activities, recruiting and training volunteers, and engaging with the community to promote humane cat care. Volunteer Location: Killeen, and other Central Texas cities where Snip & Tip operates.


Purpose of the Position: The TNR Coordinator Volunteer supports Snip & Tip by managing and coordinating the TNR program, ensuring that community cats are humanely trapped, neutered, and returned to their environments.


Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Program Coordination: Plan and oversee TNR activities in target areas, working closely with volunteers, community members, and veterinary partners.

  • Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and support TNR volunteers, providing guidance on humane trapping, transportation, and cat care.

  • Scheduling: Coordinate the scheduling of trapping sessions, veterinary appointments, and the return of cats to their original locations.

  • Community Outreach: Engage with community members to educate them about TNR, gain their support, and identify areas in need of TNR efforts.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all trapped, neutered, and returned cats, including their health status, treatment details, and locations.

  • Transport Coordination: Arrange transportation for trapped cats to veterinary clinics for spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and ear-tipping.

  • Supplies Management: Ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies, such as traps, food, and medical kits, are available and distributed to volunteers.

  • Problem Solving: Address any issues that arise during TNR activities, providing solutions and support to volunteers and community members.

  • Follow-Up: Monitor the health and status of returned cats, ensuring their well-being and addressing any ongoing issues.

  • Reporting: Compile and submit monthly reports to the Snip & Tip Manager for program tracking and assessment.

Level of Difficulty:

  • Physical (3/5): Involves lifting, bending, and handling cats and trapping equipment.

  • Mental (4/5): Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Emotional (4/5): Can be emotionally challenging due to encountering less-than-ideal situations for community cats.

Expected Environmental Conditions: Majority of the work occurs outside; volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather. Volunteers may encounter busy roads, heavy traffic, and hazardous road conditions.


How Often Volunteers Work On-site: Most work is off-site in target communities, with occasional meetings or training sessions at central locations.


Orientation/Training:

  • General orientation and training on Snip & Tip’s TNR program, policies, and procedures.

  • Hands-on training specific to the role, including humane trapping, cat handling, and record-keeping.

  • Introduction to veterinary partners and key team members.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Develop or strengthen skills in volunteer management, animal care, and community outreach.

  • Gain experience in coordinating a TNR program.

  • Enhance communication and problem-solving skills.

Position Start Date: Ongoing.


Initial Minimum Commitment: Four to ten hours per week for three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and interest.


Scheduling Guidelines: Flexible, with some work required during regular business hours and occasional evenings or weekends based on the needs of TNR activities and volunteers.


Qualifications/Requirements for Volunteer Applicants:

  • Meet the requirements outlined in the Essential Capabilities document with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Comfortable handling cats and trapping equipment.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

  • Experience in animal care, TNR, or volunteer management is strongly preferred.

  • Access to a computer and internet for record-keeping and communication.


Tools/Equipment Provided (including Personal Protective Equipment):

  • Training materials, resources, and support for managing the TNR program.

  • Supplies for TNR activities, including traps, food, medical kits, and data forms.

Optional Tools/Equipment: Any specialty tools or personal equipment you prefer to work with.


Supervisor(s): Program Coordinator, Snip & Tip.

Restrictions:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must wear a Snip & Tip t-shirt (provided at no cost) when representing the program.

  • Must have reliable transportation for travel to target communities and veterinary clinics.

  • Must complete all training before being assigned.
