Volunteer Foster Coordinator
In this role, you'll manage and coordinate our foster care program, ensuring that our furry friends receive the best care until they are ready for adoption or release. Work Location: Killeen, and other Central Texas cities where Snip & Tip operates.
Purpose of the Position: The Foster Coordinator Volunteer supports Snip & Tip by managing and coordinating the foster care program, ensuring that cats and kittens receive proper care in foster homes until they are ready for adoption or release.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Screening: Recruit, interview, and screen potential foster volunteers to ensure they meet Snip & Tip’s standards and requirements.
Training and Support: Provide training, resources, and ongoing support to foster volunteers, including guidance on animal care, health monitoring, and behavior management.
Placement Coordination: Match cats and kittens with suitable foster homes based on their specific needs and the capabilities of the foster volunteers.
Health Monitoring: Ensure all fostered cats and kittens receive necessary medical care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and any other required treatments.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all foster animals, including health status, medical treatments, and progress updates.
Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for foster volunteers, answering questions, addressing concerns, and providing regular updates on foster animals.
Supplies Management: Coordinate the distribution of supplies to foster homes, such as food, litter, medications, and other necessary items.
Adoption Coordination: Work closely with the adoption team to prepare foster animals for adoption events, ensuring they are healthy, well-socialized, and ready for their forever homes.
Problem Solving: Assist foster volunteers in resolving any issues that arise during the fostering period, providing support and solutions as needed.
Outreach and Education: Promote the foster program within the community, educating the public about the importance of fostering and how they can get involved.
Level of Difficulty:
Physical (2/5): Involves occasional lifting and handling of cats and kittens.
Mental (4/5): Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Emotional (4/5): Can be emotionally challenging due to dealing with sick or injured animals and the potential for attachment to foster animals.
Expected Environmental Conditions: Majority of the work is performed remotely or in foster homes. Occasional visits to veterinary clinics or other facilities may be required.
How Often Volunteers Work On-site: Most work is off-site, with occasional visits to foster homes or clinics.
Orientation/Training:
General orientation and training on Snip & Tip’s foster program, policies, and procedures.
Hands-on training specific to the role, including animal care, health monitoring, and record-keeping.
Introduction to veterinary partners and key team members.
Learning Opportunities:
Develop or strengthen skills in volunteer management, animal care, and community outreach.
Gain experience in coordinating a foster care program.
Enhance communication and problem-solving skills.
Position Start Date: Ongoing.
Initial Minimum Commitment: Four to ten hours per week for three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and interest.
Scheduling Guidelines: Flexible, with some work required during regular business hours and occasional evenings or weekends based on the needs of foster volunteers and animals.
Tools/Equipment Provided (including Personal Protective Equipment):
Training materials, resources, and support for managing the foster program.
Supplies for foster homes, including food, litter, medications, and other necessary items.
Optional Tools/Equipment: Any specialty tools or personal equipment you prefer to work with.
Supervisor(s): Program Coordinator, Snip & Tip.
Number of Concurrent Volunteer Openings: 2-3 individuals per city.
Restrictions:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must wear a Snip & Tip t-shirt (provided at no cost) when representing the program.
Must have reliable transportation for occasional visits to foster homes or veterinary clinics.
Must submit required paperwork and pass a background check before being assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements for Volunteer Applicants:
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable handling cats and kittens of various temperaments.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Experience in animal care, fostering, or volunteer management is strongly preferred.
Access to a computer and internet for record-keeping and communication.
